Best Subway Sauce Combination (A Spicy Guide)

We probably all have been regulars at our local Subway shop over the years. Maybe you are still going and enjoying your breakfast, a foot-long classic sandwich, the melts, wraps or the more health-conscious no-bready bowls and salads. You can hardly avoid the classic green and yellow-coloured subway logo anywhere you go as there are 24,568 subway locations currently in the US and 40,953 worldwide.

Depending on someone’s taste and personal preferences, seasoning is quite a key factor when determining peak enjoyment of your chosen meal. This reminds me of a good friend of mine, who has a small selection of sauces in her handbag anywhere she goes. Tabasco, Spicy sauce and wholegrain mustard just to name a few. What is your sauce of choice and most importantly how do you combine sauces and for which meal?

You probably already have an answer to your personal preference but many people don’t. To shed a light on this spicy subject, we have loosened our belts to explore the options and best combinations, hope you are hungry!

What is the best sauce combination at Subway?

Now, let’s straight into it and roll up our sleeves. The best combination is obviously a very subjective notion so we try to make the combinations in the hope we can find a bit for anyone out there reading this!

Now, having studied a little bit of statistics in school, the sheer possibilities of 11 different sauces are almost endless. Just choosing, say, 2 sauces out of 11 sauces to find the magic combination will give you 55 different flavours to choose from!

If you want to combine a more complicated 4 ingredients in your special mix, you will have to consider going through 330 combinations, with 5 or 6 this number increases to 462

We obviously don’t have the stomach to test all of the various combinations so we just tried a few with our favourite 7 combinations being as follows:

1. For straightforward deliciousness without much spicy finish:
⅓ each of Honey Mustard, Regular Mayonnaise, Buffalo sauce, a sprinkle of pepper

2. For medium spice with a nice follow through on your tongue:
⅓ each of Baja Chipotle, Roasted Garlic Aioli, Yellow mustard, a sprinkle of salt & pepper

3. For a more sober but well accompanying hint of a taste for your sandwich:
⅓ each of Regular Mayonnaise, Sweet Onion Terriyaki and, MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette

4. For a high space level and runny sauce which covers all corners of your meal:
¼ each of Oil, Peppercorn Ranch, Baja Chipotle and Buffalo Sauce

5. For those willing to really spice things up and not speak for the rest of the night:
¾ of Buffalo Sauce and ¼ of Garlic Aioli

6. For sensitive taste buds who want to enjoy the taste of their sandwiches more:
¼ of Red Wine Vinaigrette, ½ Honey Mustard and ¼ Regular Mayonnaise

7. For those in desperate need of flavour no matter what you’re eating:
⅓ of Roasted Garlic Aioli, ⅓ Buffalo Sauce and ⅓ Yellow Mustard and add Salt & Pepper

What sauce goes with a Subway sandwich?

One of the things that makes Subway stand out is the fact that customers can customize their sandwiches to suit their own tastes. When ordering a sandwich at Subway, customers can choose from a variety of bread, meats, cheeses, vegetables, and sauces. This allows everyone to create a sandwich that is perfect for them.

In addition, as we explored above, any sauce and seasoning combination will just accentuate the tasty experience.

As usual, it totally depends on your personal preference and taste. For reference, I like my Black Forest Ham foot-long sandwich with cheese and a combination of the Roasted Aioli sauce and a hint of Chipotle sauce. If I am going for a Meatball Marinara I usually just add a little MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette which goes very well in my opinion.

How do you pick subway sauces?

Picking sauces is very simple. If you are ordering for either delivery or pick-up online you will have the choice to add sauces as you see fit. This is in addition to all the other changes and additions you can make for cheese, veggies, extra protein, bread and other add-ons such as avocado and Capicola.

Which is the healthiest sauce in Subway?

That is a very difficult question to answer as the term “healthy” is interpreted differently depending on who you ask. If you look only at calorific content then our table above will give you all the information you need. As such, Red Wine Vinegar (0 cal), followed by Buffalo Sauce (10 cal) and Yellow Mustard (20 cal) are the best options.

If you are more concerned about the ingredients used to make sauces then a more thorough look into the composites makes the most sense.

What is the most popular sandwich at Subway?

Similar to my personal taste, the most popular sandwich at Subway is the footlong Meatball Sub. It costs $7.99 and contains 820 calories typically which does not include sauces.

Which dressing is best in Subway?

According to the staff in our local Subway store, the most sought-after dressing at Subway is the honey mustard dressing. It is sweet and tangy and goes well with any sandwich. Their assessment comes from looking at which sauces they run out most frequently and therefore need to be re-ordered. A similar pattern, apparently, exists in other branches so we think that is quite a solid answer!

What do you put on a Subway sandwich?

Any combination of things that are available really. There are many possible answers to this question, as there are many different types of Subway sandwiches.

Some popular sandwich choices from Subway include the Italian B.M.T., the Cold Cut Combo, the Meatball Marinara, the Spicy Italian, the Tuna, the Turkey Breast, the Veggie Delite, and the Black Forest Ham. When choosing a sandwich, customers can also select their bread, cheese, vegetables, and condiments.

The bread selection is usually Toasted Hearted Multigrain, Toasted Artisan Flatbread, Toasted Artisan Italian and Toasted Italian Herbs & Cheese.

The cheeses one can choose from are American Cheese, Pepper Jack, Monterrey Cheddar and Provolone.

Veggies include your usual healthy options such as Lettuce, Spinach, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Red Onion and Green Peppers. In addition, you can add Pickles, Black Olives and Jalapenos.
